We live in a townhouse without a rec room or "toy room" so many of our children's toys were scattered throughout the family room. We bought this toy box so that we store toys in the family room and not have it look like a cheap, kiddie toy box. It is beautiful - the dark wood matches our furniture and it blends in with the decor nicely. It holds a lot of toys and the best part is that the top will not slam down on your child's fingers when they go to open and close it. I would highly recommend this toy box.

Here are a few things you can't tell from the Amazon images: (1) the top of the chest is indivual slats of wood that are attached with silver screws, so there are 3 rows of shiny silver screws (one on each side and one down the middle); (2)The same silver screws are on each corner of each side of the box. I only mention this because the pictures don't show this. I don't mind the silver screws, but some people desiring a uniform color may object.
Overall, I'm happy with the appearance of the chest - it actually holds more than I thought it would. Our 2-year old can open it with ease and it stays open while she rummages for her toys. We are very pleased overall with this product.
As to assembly, this is very Ikea-like - it comes in a flat box and you have to put everything together. The screws are a little temperamental and take some adjustments to get in. This is mostly a one person job, with a second person assisting. It took almost an hour to assemble.

BEWARE! The top does not open up all the way. The safety hinge can easily break off with a strong toddler using it. It came scratched in two places and the side didn't line up due to poor design quality. I returned it.

This toy box was for my granddaughter. Her problem was with her brothers always getting in her stuff. So I bought this box and added a lock so she could secure her toys. This box is well worth the price. It is very sturdy and the materials used are excellent. It was easy to put together and to add the lock was easy. This toy box could be used to store other things also. The quality and look of this item would make someone think you paid alot more than you did.

Bought this as a toy chest for my twin 2-year old grandsons. We all love it! The boys can get into it easily, it holds lots of toys and the lid stays wherever it is positioned so their little hands don't get smashed or pinched! Sturdy and beautiful cherry wood. Will be a great piece of furniture after the boys no longer use it for a toy box.
